Lots of weird characters in the cast from So whose stated goal was to make people cry, Max and Shirin, two of the most annoying super fans (as well as nudists) in Survivor history, Vince, the jilted lover of Jenn who was unaware she was even in a relationship with him, Will who may have had the most misogynistic tirade ever, if it weren't for Dan in his same season, who disappoints at life. Then there is woe is me Nina who may be the most unaware player this side of Karishma in Island of the Idols, always bringing up her deafness as an excuse.
Then there's Mike who won despite long odds, Jenn and Hali, Tyler, Carolyn, and Sierra who met her future husband Joe on this season.
But this season shows how the evolution of Survivor over the first 30 seasons resulted in people playing past games rather than the game they are in. Fortunately the 4th decade of seasons changed this trend, as new players and returning players started changing up their strategy.
Mike and his work ethic alienated the Blue Collar tribe early on, but Dan and Rodney weren't liked too well either. When the Tribes switched to 2 at 14, 4 of the 5 remaining Blue Collar members stayed together. They would stay together to the final 6 where 3 were eliminated in order to leave one of each collars for the FTC.
There were a number of ugly incidents during the season, one where the the No Collars left Nina out
of a challenge (and lost and voted her out.) The Dysfunctional misogynistic men of the Blue Collar Tribe, and the post auction discussion with Mike calling out Rodney.
In some ways this was the Shirin at her superfan most annoying. At the auction, she told everyone that Jeff would give everyone their letters for the same price so Sierra bid $20 and everyone got theirs for $20. I so wanted Jeff to throw a wrench in it, and either charge more or not let them have them at all.
Notably this was the last auction, and I think part of the demise was the way players were gaming it, making it less interesting.
Shirin along with others also thought Will was being deceptive with how little he brought back from his rations and shared with the tribe. Will then freaked out on Shirin. Shirin then got Will back by denying his letter from home at the immunity challenge.
Post-merge this was just not a fun season to watch. Mike went on a run of Immunity wins and Idol Finds, which made him the winner by making it to the FTC. I'm not sure who the jury would have voted for if it were Dan, Rodney, and Will.
Despite all the ugliness that makes this season the 25th best of 26 Original Cast seasons, the edit at least showed the compassionate side of everyone who seemed despicable, which allows it to nudge out Nicaragua.
