Episode 7 "There's a New Sheriff in Town" Review
This two-hour episode by itself was not interesting but it leaves us with a sense that the next few episodes could be unpredictable. I'm not holding my breath.
Part 1
NUKU Tribe
Short commiseration with Zeke the day following tribal. Sarah does not forgive Varner. Ozzy seems uneasy about talking about it.
MERGE
Tribes come to reward to see feast table and covered table. Jeff does not mention Varner being gone and lays on the twist that they can have the feast only if one player from each tribe gets one volunteer to sit out the feast. Otherwise it's cheese and crackers. Brad on Mana and Tai on Nuku volunteer the others partake. Zeke wonders about Brad's motivation to sit out. Cirie is also suspicious.
Debbie pretends to be drunk and does shenanigans, and reflects on strategy a little, but otherwise uneventful.
MERGED Tribe (MAKU MAKU)
Tribe goes back to Nuku beach. Debbie apologizes to Brad for her outburst. Zeke explains the Varner story and that he is transgender. Aubry has a lot of respect for Zeke. Ozzy, Brad and Troyzan talk and believe they have Sierra, and Debbie. Brad targets Michaela and secondarily Hali. Ozzy tries to bring in Zeke, Tai and Sarah. Brad is also on board. Sierra talks to others throwing around lot of cliches Uniformly the tribe settles on Michaela. Hali is happy it's not her. Nobody's talking to Michaela. Michaela remember is an unknown like Zeke, and Michaela senses it. Zeke makes a deal with Cirie, Andrea, and Sarah as an alliance of four, and worries about voting off Michaela first, and where Sierra and Brad's group will go after Michaela.
Hali notices everyone talking, but nobody is talking to her. She tries to light a fire under Michaela by telling her that her name is being mentioned. Michaela talks to Cirie. Cirie tells Michaela to control her emotions and not shut down. "Be as regular as you possibly can." Michaela trusts her and looks for two black women to go to the end. Cirie starts looking for a way to keep Michaela longer.
INDIVIDUAL IMMUNITY Challenge
The first Individual Immunity Challenge involves Standing on a wooden platform with a block on their head pushed against the top of the frame. Hali, Troyzan and Zeke drop out in the first minute, followed by Cirie, Debbie, Michaela, Ozzy, Aubry and Brad leaving four. Fast forward to 25 minutes where Sarah and Sierra drop out leaving Andrea and Tai. Andrea wins as Tai falls.
MAKU MAKU Tribe
Sierra feels that she is in charge, but starts worrying about Hali having an Idol and looks to split the vote with Hali with 5 and the other 7 for Michaela. They tell Michaela and Hali they are voting for Zeke, because he has the best story at the end. Cirie doesn't like the vote for Michaela and talks to Zeke. Cirie only sees an advantage for Sierra and Brad camp, in that they would pull in Hali after. Zeke talks to Cierra and wonders why they aren't putting more votes on Hali since the purpose is to draw out the Idol or send it home. Sierra is more worried about the havoc wreaking Michaela will cause by leaving her in the game. Cirie and Zeke see it as a weak argument. Sierra and Debbie talk about Zeke wanting to be in charge, and Sierra says there is a new Sheriff in town. Cirie tells Michaela she is trying to save her, and to stick with Zeke as her vote. We don't see how or if she changes the vote.
TRIBAL Council Day 21
Jeff talks about the merge and what happens. Andrea says the first couple of votes after the merge are huge. Jeff compares it to Musical Chairs. Debbie says there will be no shock. Hali says she is in the dark, and 3 or 4 people are blindfolded and doesn't know which one will be shot. Michaela is worried, as she believes her name is on the list to go but doesn't understand why. Tai states you need to look ahead beyond tonight's vote. Ozzy brings up the Hidden Immunity Idol and whether someone has it. Debbie says now is the time to flush out the idol. Cirie says the the person who they think has an idol, may not know they think has an idol. Hali volunteers to show that she doesn't have an idol, but only if someone asks her to. Nobody does. Hali makes an argument against the targets being the weaklings in the game. Sierra says that now is not the time to gather numbers.
Presumably the original four votes for Hali were Sierra, Debbie, Brad, and Troyzan. Hali and Michaela vote for Zeke. Sarah, Andrea, Zeke and Cirie vote for Michaela, Cirie (and presumably Zeke) staying so that Sierra and Brad don't figure out who is behind the change over. Ozzy, Aubry, and Tai vote for Hali and she is eliminated and becomes the first person on the Jury.
Part 2
MAKU MAKU Tribe
Michaela is grateful to Cirie for saving her. Cirie tells her it's fine as long as she doesn't reveal that Cirie was behind the change. Aubry, Zeke and Cirie get together and Cirie wants to let the dragon loose. Zeke is good with targeting Brad or Sierra. They feel they have the numbers. Aubry feels like she is in the middle between two big Italian families ready to brawl. Zeke and Andrea talk about the alliance. Zeke is trying to get a clear picture and doesn't feel he's enough in the know. Andrea talks about taking out Sierra then Debbie. He doesn't see Brad and Sierra as the biggest threats, he sees Andrea and Cirie.
REWARD Challenge
The Reward Challenge is two teams of six gathering wooden fish from the water, putting them on hooks and then using them as pieces in two puzzles. Reward is a day of luxury. Sarah picks Brad, Aubry, Michaela, Cirie and Sierra as Orange Team. Andrea picks Tai, Ozzy, Troyzan, Debbie and Zeke as Blue Team. The lead goes back and forth and Blue pulls it out.
MAKU MAKU Tribe
Cirie feels bad because she and Sierra didn't get the puzzle done in time. Sierra and Cirie commiserate a little about how hard the game is.
REWARD
IMMUNITY Challenge
Simply put, it's polesitting. Sierra and Ozzy are the only ones who have played with Ozzy winning twice and Sierra not winning. Cirie, Brad, Aubry, Debbie, Zeke, Sierra, Troyzan, and Sarah quickly fall. 20 Minutes in, Michaela comes down, 40 minutes in Andrea finally jumps from the top and falls hard, but is ok, leaving Tai and Ozzy still in it at one hour. Both stay near the top of the pole. Ozzy threatens to not fish if he loses, but would fish if he wins. Both struggle, but Ozzy slides down, and Tai gets immunity. The rest of the tribe is impressed.
MAKU MAKU Tribe
Zeke wants Andrea gone, and talks to Sierra about it. Sierra is suspicious about Zeke and that he is trying to play her. Sierra tells Cirie that Zeke told her that her name is on the block, which predictably makes Zeke the target of Cirie, Andrea and Ozzy. They tell Sarah, also. Debbie and Sierra talk and Debbie starts to target Ozzy, and bring in Troyzan, Brad, and Tai. Debbie tells Sarah also, who feels she is in the middle.
TRIBAL COUNCIL Day 24
Jeff talks about all the switches, and where each one's alliances lie. Sarah says it's like a bunch of single people and she's open to "dating". Ozzy says his value to camp is the ability to provide fish. Aubry agrees that Ozzy is the provider. Zeke talks about how you need to switch peoples minds on how valuable someone is. Cirie talks about trust. They vote, and Debbie uses her 2nd Vote advantage with both going to Ozzy. In the end, Zeke votes for Aubry, Cirie for Sierra, while 7 votes go to Ozzy and 4 to Zeke (Aubry, Michaela, Andrea and Ozzy) Ozzy's fourth chance at Survivor is over as he goes to the jury. His parting words to the tribe, are "Good luck eating!" and shakes his head.
NEXT Time...
Zeke gets more wrath from Andrea, the Sierra/Brad alliance seems to pick up steam. Debbie seems to have plans with Sarah as the swing, but Sarah plots with Zeke to make a move.
The BOOTS
Hali was an interesting boot for an uninteresting player. After two appearances now, I still fail to see her value as a Survivor player. All in all, I'm glad Michaela stayed over her, but I thought a better move would have been to take out one of the big guns on either side of the alliances.
Ozzy has played four times and has two accomplishments, can provide food by climbing trees or going in water and can sit on poles. The latter is no longer true as Tai outlasted him, and he's gone again. As Andrea said about Zeke, "I hope to see you--never!" applies to me on Ozzy.
